the question for my topic has changed slightly due to the need for me to simplify my research. My question now is Why do people become people become police officers despite the dangers? The easy part of this paper so far has been talking to a current police officer about his own experiences. The hard part has basically been combing through articles and databases to find usable information. My research so far has guided me to use books and first hand knowledge for research. My paper will reflect what i found to influence law enforcement officers.

The resource i found the other day is important because it provides information about law enforcement requirements and benefits. this is extremely important to my research because it provides me with important insight about how to become a police officer. I am going to use this research as the beginning of my report.

what i know

This is what i know about law enforcement beginning with the benefits. In local law enforcement there is a major plus side that includes four days of work and then three days of rest per week. Everybody loves the ability to have that extra day off to relax. Another benefit is benefits police officers have great health care benefits since their job is so dangerous. their retirement benefits are also great since their pension plans can include receiving 95% of their salary at retirement. most departments only require an officer to work for 20 years before they are eligible to retire. Departments furnish their officers uniforms gun's and everything else an officer may need even running shoes. Some departments even allow officers to use their cars when off the clock in order to improve the presence of police at all times.

The downside to being a police officer is the danger aspect of it. State Troopers police the highways of Texas alone so if anything happens to them backup does take awhile to reach them. for any police officer traffic stops are extremely dangerous often times an officer cannot adequately see inside the vehicle to be able to gauge the situation as he approaches a car. officers also face danger from other motorists as they often are not paying attention. Officers have died during routine traffic stops

The River YEAH

My friends and I were bored so we decided to float the Guadalupe river one weekend. So we loaded up the truck with all of our camping supplies and took off. We were having such a good old time just driving by waving at people as we drove by them. once we reached the rockin r campground we set our tents up quickly as it was getting dark. we then proceeded to make a fire and started to kick back some beers reminiscing about old times. we then thought it would be a great time to float the river in the dark which turned out to be an awful decision. As we were floating and drinking we forgot there was a series of rapids and two of my friends drowned that very night.

RESEARCH

Murder Rates I am going into law enforcement so i need to know how dangerous a city is before i apply.

City Government I will want to know the proper channel to process any complaints I may have when living in city limits.

Insurance benifits are always an important thing to keep researched as I will need to find coverage after I graduate

High School Drop outs I am a sociology major and the reasons for people to dropout interest me.

to Twit

The Twitter debate is a dumb one seeing as how there is the choice to follow twitter or not. The best argument I have heard is that twitter is a "toy for high school girls and bored celebrities" fascinating. i myself do not have a twitter account yet. but I know that one day I will be forced to get one just because everyone else has one. One reporter asked the creators of twitter "would Shakespear have Twittered?" the answer is obviously no. Shakespear would probably called you a with and called upon a mob to haul in whoever had the computer. Shakespear would however would have liked to be able to communicate with relatives he couldn't visit.

I define social networking as keeping up and meeting ohters online. to me for this to occur there must be an exchange in messages. When i am socializing i mainly use facebook though I have a myspace. I read some articles today and I find that I am neutral when people are on their social networking sites I just dont care. i however have not gotten into the bandwagon with twitter i just dont see the point. Twitter is all about "generating crowds"wherever and whenever. business weekly

Intro

I am a student I am currently double majoring in political science and sociology. After I graduate next year I want to go into law enforcement and help people. My number one goal is to have someone else pay offf my student loans.
